Warren Haynes Interview

It's very obvious that Warren Haynes is one of my favorite artists. But, he is also one of my favorite people to speak with or.. "interview". Warren is a down to earth guy and that always seems to shine through during our interviews. This interview is my 4th with Warren. I made an effort to approach this interview from a different angle. I didn't want to cover the same ground.. ask the same questions that others ask him.. and also avoid asking the same questions that I had asked previously. Ofcourse I wanted to talk about the new record, and I always have to know what is in Warren's cd player, but I wanted to ask questions that I did not know the answers to. I wanted to ask questions that most of Warren's fans possibly didn't even know the answers to. One example is the subject of politics. Gov't Mule is a band that has never used the press to express any political opinions. On stage Warren has never wasted time ranting about politics and I have always respected him and the band for that. - I asked Warren all about the topic and it's included in the download below.

After four interviews and one face to face encounter, Warren and I have gotten to know each other fairly well. This is one of those interviews that at times seems more like a conversation as opposed to an interview. One listener described the interview as "personable" and I happen to agree. That trait comes through as you listen to the two of us talk.

The pictures above were taken backstage at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.. the night before this interview. - From left to right.. me with Lee Roy Parnell, my girlfriend Amber with Audley Freed, then Warren and me. - My girlfriend and I have actually known each other since high school but on November the 9th, 2003 I asked her to go see Chris Robinson open for Gov't Mule at the Ryman and we've been together ever since. The show this year at the Ryman was almost on the same date as the show the year before.. it was nice to go back one year later and this time actually hang out backstage at the legendary venue with the guy who brought us together one year earlier. So thank you Warren. And thank you Chris as well.

Enough about that. The interview is below.. you can download it.. stream it.. share it.. burn it.. whatever you want.

I hope you dig it.

-Jon Hensley, November 2004
