Chris Robinson Interview & Supergroovaliciously Tall Music Emporium

My all time favorite rock and roll band is, without question, The Black Crowes. They had it all, really. The band was obviously very rocking yet could play the blues, funk, and even country music. Chris Robinson's new band "The New Earth Mud" is just as good if not better than the Black Crowes. Those Black Crowes songs are a lot more meaningful to me because of the themes of the songs as well as the time period during which I started listening to the band. But Chris' new band really has it all and they are really a spectacular group of musicians with a front man that has the best voice in rock today.

The first time I interviewed Chris Robinson I was really just a kid.. probably about 16 or 17 years old. I had interviewed a few well known's in the music business.. the most well known up until this point was Chris' brother Rich. I was doing these interviews for my internet radio station "DarkSide of the Radio". Oh yes.. for all of you diehard Crowe fans out there you remember DSOTR. The interview process was so unprofessional back then that it's almost ridiculous to talk about. But, at the time I was living in an apartment with not a lot of extra money for high quality gear. So, I would record the interviews by putting the artists on speaker phone and then placing a standard Wal-Mart PC mic up to speaker on the phone.. and I would lean over to that mic as I would talk to the guest. Ah.. those were the days.

It was pretty groundbreaking at the time for internet radio for artists like Chris Robinson, John Paul Jones, Rich Robinson, and Warren Haynes to even agree to do an interview with an internet radio station. I'm really the most proud of the ground it broke for internet radio.

But Chris came on my station and blew me away. I literally geeked completely out while on the phone with him, I couldn't hold it in. I totally let him know how much I loved the Black Crowes and how great it was just to talk with him. He was really nice to me and even invited me to a show in Knoxville, Tennessee. The interview was scheduled to last twenty minutes and it ended up being a conversation that lasted almost two hours! Some people liked the rambling, low-tech interview.. some complained about it. The only thing that I will say about that first interview with Chris is that it was certainly raw and completely honest.

Anyway..

Now I have real equipment which is great and it was great to talk to Chris once again for over an hour, I hope you guys dig the clips below.
